Mr. James Feldkamp, (Commander, USN Ret.), currently serves as an adjunct professor at George Mason University and Henley-Putnam School of Strategic Security teaching undergraduate courses in domestic and international terrorism.
Commissioned in the U.S. Navy Feldkamp received his “wings” as a Naval Flight Officer, and Electronic Counter-Measures Officer for the EA-6B –– the U.S. Navy’s carrier-based electronic attack aircraft. He flew combat missions off the aircraft carrier USS Midway in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1991.
After affiliating with the U.S. Naval Reserves, Feldkamp became a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and founding member of the Joint Counter Terrorism Task Force in Norfolk, Virginia. In 2004, he resigned from the FBI to become the Republican nominee for Oregon’s District 4 Congressional seat during both the 2004 and 2006 election cycles.
Recalled to active duty in 2007, Feldkamp helped establish the international outreach branch for the precursor office of the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office (NMIO). In this capacity, he was responsible for the coordination of all domestic and international non-classified information sharing among U.S. Federal government agencies, foreign governments, and the international maritime shipping industry to increase maritime security and maritime domain awareness.
Feldkamp holds a Masters of Arts in International Affairs from The Catholic University of America; a diploma in National Security, Strategy, and Policy from the Naval War College; a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Oregon State University and multiple diplomas and certificates from the US Navy and FBI. He is the recipient of numerous awards including Meritorious Service Medal, Naval Strike Air Medal (2), Naval Commendation Medal with Combat V (2), and a Navy Commendation Medal.
Previously, Feldkamp served as an adjunct professor at The George Washington University and has authored/edited a university textbook titled “The Theory and Politics of Terrorism.” He frequently is in demand as a speaker and subject matter expert in counter-terrorism and maritime security for various national and international conferences.
