ENG 125 English Composition

This course is designed to help students master the traditional five-paragraph essay along with its variations. Students will learn how to support a thesis with specific evidence and how to write an effective introduction, conclusion, and title. Students will learn how to develop the nine patterns of essay development. Throughout the course, students will review all the basic grammar rules, and they will also review and apply proper APA Style.

The course learning outcomes that you will demonstrate upon completion of this course are as follows:

Smoothly integrate paraphrases and direct quotations into academic paragraphs; describe how to find and evaluate books, articles, and other resources at the library and on the Internet; cite research using APA Style

Identify nine patterns of academic essay development

Apply critical thinking skills to reading selections

Identify audience; demonstrate thorough awareness of audience in academic writing

Define, recognize, and write an effective thesis statement, organize and connect specific evidence in body paragraphs of an essay, and describe and apply the revision process to sentences, paragraphs, and essays
