Share Your Service Story

Henley-Putnam University was founded by men and women who have served this nation and know what that sacrifice means. In support of our country’s brave service men and woman, Henley-Putnam is offering a unique $5,000 scholarship opportunity to both former and active servicemembers.

From August 24th – September 15th, the “Share Your Service Story” contest invites you to share your story through a one-page essay reflecting on your service experience and career aspirations. Essay entries should answer one of the following questions:
  1. What does service mean to you? Share with us your most defining moment in serving your country, town or community, and how that moment contributed to who you are today.
  2. What do you want to accomplish through your life of service? Please include three ways in which you'd like to impact your community, country or world.
  3. What could you accomplish in your life with a degree in Intelligence Management, Terrorism and Counterterrorism, or the Management of Personal Protection? What would be possible if you had increased knowledge and skills in these areas?
A one-time, $5,000 scholarship towards a degree at Henley-Putnam University will be awarded to the contest participant judged to best fulfill the spirit of service and who wishes to earn a degree with Henley-Putnam University. Winning entry will be posted on the Henley-Putnam University blog. Limit one entry per person.

Contest Rules:
  1. Each entrant must comply with all terms and conditions set forth in these Rules.
  2. Participants agree to be bound by these rules and the judges’ decision.
  3. The $5,000 scholarship prize may be combined with military benefits. The Contest scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarship. The scholarship is awarded pro rata. It will be divided equally over the number of courses in the degree program and then applied as the course is completed. It cannot be retroactively applied to courses completed before the contest scholarship award. Scholarship is applicable to Henley-Putnam University degree programs only.
  4. The scholarship may not be awarded if selection committee deems the quality of the responses inadequate.
  5. The prize winners will be judged anonymously and by a selection committee comprised of Henley-Putnam University staff. They will be evaluated in three major areas:
    1. Writing Skill
    2. Content
    3. Applicability
  6. By entering, you warrant that the written work that you submit is original and is your own, and does not infringe on the rights of any third party. By entering the contest, you grant Henley-Putnam University the non-exclusive right to publish, use, distribute, reproduce and publicly display your writing, and to create derivative works from your writing, in perpetuity, in any of its on-line, print or other media publications, materials or exhibitions, for purposes of promoting Henley-Putnam University 's mission and awareness of its program, including but not limited to for editorial, advertising and publicity purposes, without payment of compensation unless prohibited by law.
  7. Winner will be notified by e-mail, mail, or telephone by October 1, 2009.
  8. The contest scholarship carries no cash value and cannot be redeemed for cash.
  9. By entering this contest, you agree to release Henley-Putnam University and its affiliates, and their officers, directors, agents, attorneys, employees and representatives, from any and all liability for any claims, demands, causes of action, damages, judgments or settlements, or for any losses or injury to earnings, profits, or goodwill, or for any direct, indirect, special, punitive, incidental or consequential damages, including attorneys' fees and court costs, other than entrant's out-of-pocket expenses (if any) associated with entering the contest, arising out of or relating to this contest.
