Courtney Carman, Psy.D.
Dr. Courtney Carman previously worked for the Colorado Department of Corrections, rotating between working with youthful offenders sentenced as adults at a reintegration facility, and with high-risk adult offenders in administrative segregation at a maximum security facility. Before this, she conducted intakes and assessments of mentally ill and high-risk inmates for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Downtown Los Angeles. She also previously lectured at public schools on stranger safety, working for an organization that collaborated with local, state, and federal law enforcement to prevent kidnappings. Prior, she facilitated groups, performed assessments, and conducted therapy sessions with sex offenders for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Past experience also includes performing crisis intervention in a supervisory role at a facility for female adolescents, as well as working with incarcerated males in a correctional facility in New Jersey as a senior counselor.
Dr. Carman has her Doctor of Psychology degree in Forensic Psychology from Alliant International University, Los Angeles. Her dissertation focused on profiles and characteristics of juvenile sex offenders. Additionally, she conducted research for the book Serial Murderers and Their Victims, Fifth Edition. Dr. Carman has a Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, in New York City, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach. She maintains a professional membership in the American Psychology-Law Society, Division 41, of the American Psychological Association, and in the past was a member of the California Psychological Association and the Orange County Psychological Association. Dr. Carman has taught at private and state universities since 2007.
