Thirty-eight years service, including activity duty and Reserve Military Intelligence (U.S. Army and Navy), active duty Field Artillery and Psychological Operations experience, and over thirty-two years working directly with senior U.S. Government officials, members of Congress, the Departments of State and Energy, and broadly across the Intelligence Community.
Intelligence experience ranging from strategic (Senior Indications & Warning Analyst, Mid-East/Africa Team, National Military Joint Intelligence Center Alert Center) to operational (Deputy Chief, Out-Country Order of Battle/Logistics, Combined Intelligence Center Vietnam), to tactical (Field Artillery battalion S-2). Functional management experience includes analysis, collection, operations, training, production, exercise and war gaming design and management. Three years experience in the RAND Corporation, Washington Office provides a non-government perspectives and experience on a wide range of issues. These include public diplomacy strategy, the media and the Congress, arms control and force reductions in Europe.
Higher education includes two master degrees and one bachelor degree. Initial college studies earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Northwestern State University, Louisiana, 1967. First graduate degree was earned at Georgetown University, a Master of Arts in National Security Studies, 1984. The Georgetown program covered a wide subject range from Military History to current international political challenges. Presentations by leading American experts in the field significantly enhanced the learning experience. The second graduate degree is a Master of Science (Honors) in National Security Strategy, National War College, 1995. Access to numerous fellow students from several Federal departments and a large student body with significant military operations and combat experience in all services provided a unique opportunity to learn from the best in expertise and experience. Lengthy presentations and Q&A from Speaker of The House Newt Gingrich, the Defense Secretary, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, including the Chairman, and several Combatant Command commanders provided a world class opportunity to learn and question.
