COLONEL (RET.) PHIL TORRES JOINS HENLEY-PUTNAM’S PR DEPARTMENT

San Jose, CA, May 15, 2008 ― Henley-Putnam University (www.henley-putnam.edu), a premier university for online higher education in the field of Strategic Security, is pleased to announce that former U.S. Marine Corps Colonel Phil Torres (USMC, ret.) will be joining Henley-Putnam’s Public Relations Department, which is comprised of several active and retired professionals that are highly experienced in the military, law enforcement, and intelligence communities. Colonel Torres will help create awareness in the U.S. Military environment about Henley-Putnam. PR Officers are assigned to military bases that have units congruent with the three program areas of Henley-Putnam: Intelligence, Counterterrorism, and Protection.

Prior to joining Henley-Putnam, Colonel Torres, who received a Silver Star for his service in Vietnam, served in the U.S. Marine Corps for over 34 years and rose from Private to Colonel. He served in a variety of staff, joint, and command assignments in the infantry, law enforcement, corrections, security, and other arenas. Since culminating his Marine Corps career his involvements have included serving as an Independent Contractor for Blackwater USA on international training and assessment assignments; Security Coordinator for SECURCORP, Inc. in Woodbridge, VA; and Director of Staff Development & Training at Cornerstone Programs Corporation in Englewood, CO.

Recently, Colonel Torres had served a three-year appointment to the Department of Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS), as well as an On-call Organizational Teamwork ROPES Course Facilitator/Leadership Consultant for a variety of organizations in the U.S. and Russia, and a Substitute Teacher for the Northside Independent School District, San Antonio, TX. Colonel Torres is a Bexar County, TX Elections Judge, an NRA-certified Firearms Instructor and Range Safety Officer and a Master Martial Arts/Unarmed Combat Instructor.

Colonel Torres received a BAAS (Cum Laude) in Occupational Education at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, and an MA in Management from Webster University in San Diego, CA. In addition to both degrees, he holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership, from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX.
