Henley-Putnam University Hosts Free Public Teleconference Briefing on "Weapons of Mass Destruction, Al Qaeda"

--Director of the Center for Terrorism and Intelligence Studies (CETIS), Gary Ackerman, Featured Guest Expert 20 March at 10:00 A.M. PST –

San Jose, California, March 17, 2008 ― Director of the Center for Terrorism and Intelligence Studies (CETIS), Gary Ackerman, will present part II in the series on the growing threat of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) terrorism in this month’s Henley-Putnam University teleconference.

"In response to post-9/11 fears that a terrorist group like al-Qaeda could acquire and use WMD, Henley-Putnam University asked Mr. Ackerman to provide his analysis on the likelihood of al-Qaeda employing weapons of mass destruction. “While not inevitable,” states Mr. Ackerman, “the acquisition and employment of WMD remains highly attractive to Osama bin Laden and the global al-Qaeda jihadist network. "

The Henley-Putnam monthly teleconference briefings are free to the public. Reservations can be made by calling 408-453-9900 ext. 9949. “Weapons of Mass Destruction, Al Qaeda” with Gary Ackerman will be live March 20 at 10:00 A.M. PST. Part I and other past conferences are archived on the University's website and are availabe for download here.

Gary’s depth of expertise in terrorism and counterterrorism studies is critical to the Henley-Putnam educational experience. Michael Corcoran, Ph.D., President of Henley-Putnam notes that, “Understanding the threat posed by jihadist terror networks, like al-Qaeda, provides an important framework for our students in the law enforcement, military, and intelligence community to combat terrorism by developing a deep knowledge of terrorist strategies and dynamics.”

Gary Ackerman, in addition to Directing CETIS, is the Director of Research at the Study of Terrorism and the Responses to Terrorism (START) Center at the University of Maryland and is the co-editor of Jihadists & Weapons of Mass Destruction: A Growing Threat, (CRC Press, forthcoming).
