Henley-Putnam University Joins Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium

San Jose, California, July 11, 2007 ― Henley-Putnam University has joined the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC), a consortium of national higher education institutions which, in cooperation with the Department of Defense (DOD) and Military Services, help meet the voluntary higher education needs of servicemembers.  The consortium works with the military to provide advanced education tailored to the unique needs of military personnel. Henley-Putnam University offers online bachelor and master degree programs in Management of Personal Protection, Intelligence Management and Terrorism and Counterterrorism Studies.

The consortium assists hundreds of thousands of servicemembers, civilian employees of DOD, the Military Services including the National Guard, the Coast Guard, and their family members. Henley-Putnam University’s degree programs are conducted completely online, eliminating many of the “brick and mortar” barriers servicemember students have faced in the past, providing them the ability to complete a degree program anywhere, anytime.

“We are delighted to join the SOC consortium which allows us to better understand servicemembers’ unique needs,”  said Michael Corcoran, PhD., President of Henley-Putnam University. “Servicemembers now have an exciting new option to further their careers in intelligence, counter terrorism and protection.”

“Henley-Putnam’s membership in SOC affirms our commitment to fair, equitable, and effective policies and practices that recognize and satisfy the special conditions faced by military students who want to get a college degree,” adds Greg Von Gehr, Henley-Putnam’s CEO.  “Since all of our degree programs are taught online and we have a number of active and retired military on our faculty, we are well positioned to understand our military students’ needs and provide them a first rate education in the strategic security industry.”
