University Sought to Reflect America's Rich Heritage in Strategic Security

San Jose, CA, February 14, 2007―The California University of Protection and Intelligence Management has changed its name to Henley-Putnam University to better reflect its online Bachelors and Masters Degree programs. Students from law enforcement, military, intelligence and private sectors can obtain degrees in Management of Personal Protection, Intelligence Management or Terrorism and Counterterrorism. Thus, to better represent the tradition and innovation of these types of specialties, the University’s management team chose the name Henley-Putnam University, named after historical figures Colonel David Henley and General Israel “Don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes” Putnam.

Greg Von Gehr, CEO of Henley-Putnam University reveals further thinking behind the name. “This name reflects the true spirit of our school. It allows us to tell an important story – the story of Colonel Henley and General Putnam who were among the first intelligence officers appointed by GeorgeWashington during the Revolutionary War. Few people are aware of the vital role that intelligence played in the defeat of the British as led by America’s first spymaster, GeorgeWashington.”

Henley-Putnam University was conceived after more than twelve years of planning and research to contribute to the professional development of protection, intelligence and counterterrorism tradecraft.
